   A well-balanced boat blending high-performance and grace

about

In the 1830’s in the Adirondack region of New York, boats were made for guides taking their affluent vacationers into the backcountry. The guides needed a fast lightweight boat that could be easily portaged with the client’s gear. Crane Boat Works has updated the original design by using Kevlar and fiberglass in lieu of the original cedar strips. This change in the hull materials gives the Crane Boat Works guideboat extra strength and reduces its’ weight so one person can easily portage it.

Keeping with the grand style each Adirondack guideboat features real wood gunnels, cherry decks and three caned seats and a back rest(for rear seat), retaining the great old look of the past.

Crane Boat Works adds other unique features such as eight foot oars - beautifully crafted from premium hardwoods, a masterpiece in itself. These beautiful furniture-grade oars are suitable enough to hang on the cabin wall.  Many other details make this Adirondack guideboat both delightful to look at as well as fun to oar. It’s the best of both worlds old and new.

This classic design with new materials gives you a boat that goes wherever you want. It is much faster than a canoe and kayak and takes less effort.
